The company said the determination was made based on the nature of the fiber cuts, the extent of damage, and the makeup of impacted customers. In all, more than 50,000 residential customers and more than 500 business customers were affected for up to 30 hours.

An internet outage across large parts of Long Beach was caused by someone who intentionally cut fiber optic lines “in a criminal act of vandalism,” according to a spokesperson for Spectrum. The cable company was notified of the vandalism “early this morning,” affecting parts of Long Beach and Signal Hill, Spectrum spokesperson Pam Collazo said.

“Early this morning, our fiber optic lines were intentionally cut in Long Beach due to vandalism,” the company said in a Thursday statement. “The fiber cuts have caused a temporary outage for residents and businesses in Long Beach and some of the surrounding areas.”
