Rice University is hiring David Pierce as the school's new head baseball coach, the school announced on Monday night. The move was first reported by Kendall Rogers of D1 Baseball. The 62-year-old Pierce is replacing Jose Cruz Jr.

HOUSTON — Rice University named a new head baseball coach on Monday. David Pierce, a Houston native, is rejoining the program where he previously served as an assistant from 2003 to 2011 under coach Wayne Graham.

Rice University Vice President and Director of Athletics Tommy McClelland announced Monday that former Texas Longhorns Head Coach David Pierce has been named the Bixby Family Head Baseball Coach, returning to South Main after previously serving as an assistant under Wayne Graham from 2003-11.
