Supercell thunderstorms could produce multiple long-lived EF3 or stronger tornadoes today in the mid-Mississippi and lower Ohio valleys. Tornadoes, destructive straight-line winds and damaging hail will also impact a much larger area of the Midwest and South.

Forecasters issued some of their rarest and most extreme alerts on Wednesday as they warned a powerful storm system would stall over the central part of the country.

Severe weather is predicted for the central United States, including potentially deadly tornadoes, large hail and localized flooding that could affect as many as 32 million people through Sunday from Dallas to Cleveland.

The Mississippi Delta town of Rolling Fork was devastated by an EF-4 tornado in 2023. The town was hit by another small tornado Sunday night.

Tornadoes touched down in parts of the South and Midwest on Wednesday, knocking down power lines and trees and ripping roofs off of homes.
