A trial over the constitutionality of Illinois’ ban on certain high-powered firearms ended this week after four days of arguments and now is in the hands of a federal judge who is expected to make a decision within the next few months.

SPRINGFIELD — Legal wrangling over Illinois’ sweeping gun ban is set to resume Monday in East St. Louis, where a federal judge will consider a challenge to the constitutionality of a law that is almost two years old and has so far withstood a barrage of challenges from gun rights advocates.

Thursday was the final day of a trial challenging the law, passed in response to the 2022 mass shooting in Highland Park.
