The Texas Capitol turned into a hotbed for Christian nationalists as faith leaders gathered inside and outside the statehouse — and called for an end to the separation of church and state.

U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson said on Tuesday that the idea is to vote on a budget bill on the floor of the House of Representatives by Easter and send it to the president's desk by Memorial Day.

Becoming speaker requires a majority vote from House members. Currently, the Texas House consists of 150 members. In January, the House will be made up of 88 Republicans and 62 Democrats. The new speaker will need at least 76 votes.
