At CES 2026, AMD is blowing minds with the possibility that you'll be able to buy a socketed version of a Ryzen AI 400 laptop processor and use it in a desktop PC.

In the past few weeks KitGuru has reviewed four amd Ryzen 9000 CPUs. Then, just as things were calming down, amd told us about a Windows 11 Update that would - apparently - transform the performance of their new Zen 5 technology.

This particular configuration is equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU, GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card, 32GB or DDR5-6400MHz RAM, and a 1TB SSD. Additional system details include a 360mm all-in-one liquid cooling system for the CPU and a massive 1,500W 80Plus Platinum power supply that allows plenty of headroom for future upgrades.

AMD also is updating its workstation-level Ryzen AI Max+ mobile processors with two new models: the 12-core Ryzen AI Max+ 392 and the eight-core Ryzen AI Max+ 388. They’re notable for a system-on-chip designs that employs a bank of shared memory that can be allocated ad-hoc between the main system memory and graphics.

AMD’s Ryzen CPU announcements this year fall firmly into the latter camp—these are all gently tweaked variants of chips that launched in 2024 and 2025.
