New York Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt is likely facing Tommy John surgery to repair the torn UCL in his pitching elbow, Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Saturday

Schmidt was pulled from his last start on Thursday in Toronto with forearm tightness. He was moved to the injured list on Friday. Just a few weeks ago, Schmidt threw seven no-hit innings against the Orioles, part of a historic streak where the right-hander didn’t allow a run for 28 1/3 innings.

The 29-year-old right-hander, who had Tommy John surgery in May 2017, is 4-4 with a 3.32 ERA in 14 starts this season for a scuffling Yankees club that had lost five consecutive games.
