U.S. President Donald Trump, his Vice President JD Vance and billionaire backer Elon Musk have all voiced their support to French far-right leader Marine Le Pen after she was found guilty of embezzlement and barred from running in France's 2027 presidential election.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump offered support to French far-right leader Marine Le Pen on Thursday after a Paris court earlier this week convicted her and two dozen figures from her National Rally (RN) party of embezzling European Union funds.

Le Pen called her ban from running a "nuclear bomb" by the system, after a court convicted her of embezzlement and blocked her from office for five years.

National Rally supporters say the court decision punishing France’s far-right leader for embezzlement will ultimately redound in her favor.

The conviction of one of the most powerful figures of the European far right for embezzling EU Parliament funds has sent shockwaves around the continent and beyond. But Marine Le Pen's case is just one example of transparency problems that have plagued the legislature.

Nevertheless, the verdict—which is very likely to keep Ms Le Pen from running in the 2027 French presidential election—has shocked her party, the National Rally ( RN ), shaken French politics and received much international attention.
