Fire broke out near Kearny Villa Road and Miramar Way around 2:20 p.m. and spread to about 5 acres, Fire-Rescue officials said

A brush fire erupted Monday at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar on the verge of a new spell of dry and gusty Santa Ana conditions, blackening about a dozen open acres but causing no reported structural damage or injuries.

As of 3:23 p.m., the fire had burned at least 10 acres, according to SDFD. No structures were threatened. According to a post on X/Twitter shortly before 4 p.m. by MCAS Miramar, the brush fire had grown to about 12 acres. The fire was located on the airfield located south of the runways on base, it said.

A brush fire ignited at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar on Monday afternoon, sending smoke into the sky that could be seen from as far south as North Park and on nearby freeways.
