January started out with a meteor shower and now has a planetary alignment in store. Here's what you'll be able to see and when to catch the event.

While it is common to see a few planets in the sky at once, there are bigger planetary alignments to be seen in January 2025, and here's when you can see them.

Mars, Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn can be spotted without special equipment, with Uranus and Neptune requiring a telescope.

However, while no such events took place on that date, nor on his revised date of Dec. 25, 1919, the seeds of anxiety and fear of planetary alignments were already planted in the collective human psyche, only to sprout again and again in the decades that followed.

On January 21, a rare celestial event will take place as six planets, namely Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, will align in the night sky. The alignment will be visible from nearly all parts of the world.

This means at its peak, Jupiter, Saturn and Venus will be shown to the south and Mars will be north and west. The planet alignment will last every night through mid-February. The best time to see it will be directly after dark. The planets will be brightest around the new moon phase on January 29.

A parade of planets is coming this January, but if you miss it, you can catch it in later months. Six planets in our solar system, namely Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Venus, Neptune, and Saturn will be aligning in January.

In January, stargazers will be able to see four bright planets, the close dance of Venus and Saturn, Mars at opposition, and celestial views.

Six planets will be visible from the visible eye throughout January in a somewhat rare astronomical occurrence known as a "planetary parade."
