Customers are frustrated as Tropicana orange juice has replaced its iconic clear, circular plastic bottle with a thin neck and crown-like cap with a more traditional-looking plastic bottle, reducing the size from 52 ounces to 46 ounces.

Tropicana recently ditched its distinct orange juice in clear, plastic circular-shaped bottles with a thinning neck and a crown-like bottle cap, known as a carafe.

Tropicana rolled out its newer, more generic-looking orange juice bottles over the summer, downsizing from its previous 52 ounces to 46 ounces.

The orange juice giant lost 20% of sales in less than two months in 2009 after a wildly unpopular brand redesign.

The redesign included downsizing the bottle by six ounces. Prices on the new bottle are supposed to be lower-- but not all stores are following Tropicana’s price recommendation.

The other thing customers aren’t buying is Tropicana Orange Juice. Bottles have been sitting on supermarket shelves since the rebrand rolled out over the summer, with sales dropping a whopping 10.9% in August, and plummeting 19% by October, according to market research firm Circana as reported by CNN.

Tropicana redesigned its iconic orange juice bottles, making them smaller and changing the "crown" cap, and customers aren’t happy about it.

The metrics brands test for are around whether products stand out on crowded shelves or contain any glaring issues. “Everyone learned the wrong lesson from the last time,” he said. There may be no quick solution to reverse Tropicana’s slide.
