Former Patriots defensive coordinator DeMarcus Covington is reportedly set to join the Packers as a defensive line coach.
Brian Belichick, the son of legendary ex-Patriots coach Bill Belichick, is departing the team after serving as the safeties coach for the past five years, multiple reports said Tuesday, as new head coach Mike Vrabel builds his staff.
Covington spent last season as the defensive coordinator for the Patriots under Jerod Mayo. It was his first season at the position, and the defense struggled on the field, giving up an average of 342.9 yards per game and 5,829 yards on the season overall.
According to ESPN, the Green Bay Packers are hiring DeMarcus Covington to be their defensive line coach. Last season was Covington’s first as the Patriots defensive coordinator.
The New England Patriots are retaining special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer, according to a report from NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport on Monday. Springer had the second overall special teams unit in the NFL, per statistics from Pro Football Focus. So it would make sense that coach Mike Vrabel would like to retain that success on the team.
