A star Vegas Golden Knights defenseman may have just been the first of many players to drop out of the 4 Nations Face-off.

Ottawa Senators goaltender Linus Ullmark has been sidelined for over a month with a back injury. He left a game against the Edmonton Oilers on Dec. 22 and has been out of action ever since.

According to a report from the Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Sam Ersson will be called up to join Team Sweden's roster for the 4-Nations Face-Off in February if one of their two currently-injured goaltenders are unable to play.

It sounded precautionary at the time but turned out to be reasonably serious. This is Ullmark's second stint on the injury list. He missed a couple of weeks of action back in mid-October.
