Mika Zibanejad and Brett Berard scored in the first period, and Jonathan Quick made 32 saves as the New York Rangers beat the Boston Bruins 2-1 to snap a four-game losing streak.
The Bruins lost their first game of their three-stop trip against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday, 3-1. They have slipped to 2.58 goals per game, fourth-fewest in the league. The Chicago Blackhawks, Anaheim Ducks and Nashville Predators, the three clubs with even less firepower than the Bruins, have practically waved the white flag on 2024-25.
With 1:58 remaining in overtime Sunday night, Brad Marchand skated to collect his own rebound, misjudged Bo Horvat’s positioning, and helplessly watched as the New York Islanders forward snapped the game-winner past Jeremy Swayman.
The New York Rangers kick off 2025 by hosting the Boston Bruins at MSG on Thursday night (7:00 PM ET - TV: MSG - Radio: ESPN 880 AM). The Blueshirts will play 14 games in the month of January, including eight at MSG.
The Boston Bruins remain without Hampus Lindholm, although he was a participant in practice on Tuesday morning.

NEW YORK -- Jonathan Quick made 32 saves and the New York Rangers ended a four-game losing streak by defeating the Boston Bruins 2-1 at Madison Square Garden on Thursday. Quick earned his 399th NHL win and first since Nov. 30. His next victory will make him the first United States-born goalie to win 400 NHL games.
It's a tale of two teams with the New York Rangers entering a matchup vs. the Boston Bruins on complete opposite sides of the spectrum. As the Rangers try to find their groove again, the Bruins may not be the team they will be able to do so against.
At the other end of the ice, Rangers goalie Jonathan Quick produced an incredible 32-save performance and showed why he’s one of the best of his generation and a two-time Stanley Cup champion when he played for the Los Angeles Kings. “Their goalie played amazing,” Bruins’ David Pastrnak told reporters after the game.
The Rangers badly needed a win. Quick made sure they got one with an excellent performance against the Bruins.
Berard made it 2-0 when he entered the offensive zone on a two-on-one with linemate Will Cuylle and opted to shoot, rather than pass. He lifted a perfectly placed wrister over the glove arm of Boston goalie Jeremy Swayman (25 saves) and into the top corner at 12:53.
