A Maine State Police bomb team determined a box that had been donated contained a spent training grenade and fuses for artillery shells.

AUGUSTA — Goodwill’s Augusta store was evacuated Tuesday after a box containing what police described as “possible military grenades and/or mortars” was discovered among donated items. Augusta police and Maine State Police Bomb Team responded and the bomb team immediately secured the items, according to a release from the Augusta Police Department.

Augusta police said the bomb squad was brought in to assess the situation. The store was closed briefly but reopened shortly after police arrived at the scene.
