Senate Republicans announced Wednesday they are muscling ahead with their preferred legislative strategy to jumpstart Donald Trump’s agenda — just hours after the president himself backed a much different approach.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune expressed surprise at President Trump's declaration of support for the House's one-bill spending plan, while Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso reiterated that senators are still on schedule with their budget resolution.

U.S. Senate Republicans aim to vote this week on their own plan to advance President Donald Trump's agenda on border security, immigration, fossil fuel production and defense, pushing ahead of a rival Republican blueprint in the House of Representatives.
