A brush fire ignited at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar on Monday afternoon, sending smoke into the sky that could be seen from as far south as North Park and on nearby freeways.

According to SDFD Public Information Officer Mónica Muñoz, the fire was about three acres large, with a slow rate of spread as of 2:50 p.m. Monday.

Critical fire weather is expected to continue until Wednesday at the earliest, increasing the risk that fires will spread further.
