Thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes in the Costa del Sol region of southern Spain after a red weather alert was issued for extreme rain and flooding. Spain's Civil Protection Agency sent a mass alert to phones in Málaga province after 22:00 local time (21:00 GMT) on Tuesday evening warning of a "extreme risk of rainfall".

Flights in and out of Malaga airport have been delayed and cancelled and thousands of people have been evacuated due to extreme rainfall and flash floods in the Costa del Sol region. The weather comes two weeks after floods in the Valencia region killed around 200 people.

The weather situation in Spain is becoming increasingly challenging. A tornado was observed in Marbella, located in the southern part of the country, and other cities are experiencing floods. The government agency has issued alerts to residents.
