BOGOTÁ, Colombia (AP) — A dispute over deportation flights from the United States to Colombia entered its second day on Monday, with the U.S. backing down on a threat to impose steep tariffs on Colombian goods after the South American nation agreed to accept flights of deported migrants from the U.S.

An impasse between the United States and Colombia over Colombia's refusal to accept deportation flights ended Monday, following a day in which each side threatened tariffs on the other and then backed down amid rushed negotiations.

The Trump administration responded by threatening to slap punitive tariffs on Colombian exports to the US. President Petro at first said Colombia would retaliate by imposing tariffs on US goods, but the White House later announced that Colombia had agreed to accept migrants - including those arriving on US military aircraft - "without limitation or delay".
