Even with temperatures in the 20s at sunrise and a winter storm warning in effect for Houston, Wendell Manigault was determined to attend celebrations in honor of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr .— as he said he has done regularly ever since the civil rights icon was assassinated in 1968.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is Monday, Jan. 20, 2025. Several Houston events are lined up to mark the day and celebrate the civil rights leader. The downtown Houston 2025 Annual MLK Parade starts at 10 a.

Jan. 20 marks Martin Luther King Day, a federal holiday, which just so happens to coincide with Inauguration Day this year, both listed as federal holidays.
