A man facing charges in connection with an hourslong standoff in Boston was armed with a shotgun and rifle while he held three people hostage in a bathroom before surrendering to police, authorties announced Tuesday.

BOSTON — Boston Police Department officers peacefully arrested an armed suspect early Monday after he barricaded himself and took hostages inside a Hyde Park residence. At around 3:35 a.m., officers from District E-18 responded to reports of an individual with a gun at 19 Hopewell Road.

Andres Rivera, 42, of Boston, was taken into custody at a residence on Hopewell Road after a SWAT team was brought to the neighborhood.
